The person responsible for the design of these augers clearly doesn’t understand the principle behind a screw. The plane of the auger is not constant and the fins are not perpendicular to the axis of the rod. The result? Instead of digging down into the ground and holding tightly, this thing either just spins and won’t dig in because the changing plane gives too much resistance or if you push REALLY hard and get it to go into the ground, it just creates a huge void where the hold-down will move up and down nearly two inches.
My advise…don’t make the same mistake I did and pay your hard-earned money for these pieces of garbage. Buy a few “candy-cane” tent stakes at your favorite camping supplied dealer…they’re much cheaper and will actually work.
