  1. I used to fish as a kid in my home country. Not being from the US originally, I did not know how to look for the kind of rod I wanted — simple, no reel. Bamboo was the only key word that came to mind. The rods I used to buy in the good old USSR were *much* higher quality than this. The first rod I received had a split section (lower); I do not know whether that was a result of poor drying process or of mishandling. Getting a replacement was very easy. The rod is really cheaply made. The first time I assembled and disassembled the rod, the metal joint slid off the pole. The tip looks very poorly tied. The finish started coming off before I even used the rod. The three good things I can say about this product are: it is the cheapest; it is bamboo; it comes with a rigged line, so if you want to occupy your child while you are fishing, you do not need to do more shopping. If you are planning to use it more than a couple of times and are actually planning to catch some fish with it, I suggest searching for “crappie pole” before buying this.

    UPDATE:

    DO NOT BUY THIS CRAP!

I wish I could change the rating to one star. After the first use all joints fell apart on both the original flawed rod (two of the three sections of which are still usable) and the replacement. Some of them have not been glued at all! While re-gluing one of them I discovered another crack that was lacquered over. The rigged line that came with the rod is ridiculously short – it is about 2/3 of the rod length, which makes it of no use to me. This is the worst made product I ever bought through Amazon… or perhaps ever.

For starters, this pole is very long so I would recommend sticking to a 10 foot pole. But the lenght would be ok if the connectors worked a little better. The first time I put one section into the next and then pulled them apart, the bamboo came loose from the metal connector. I had to use gorilla glue to put it back together and haven’t tried it since. Simply put the poles are cheap, both in price and quality. You get what you pay for.
